Official Motorola support advice puzzles GoMo News

Rating: Upgrade Dext/Cliq using Milestone 2.1? Surely, not

For a moment, it looked like it was possible to upgrade a Motorola Dext (Cliq) handset to Android 2.1 using the settings provided for the Motorola Milestone. Especially since this was ‘official’ advice coming from the Motorola Mobile Devices Contact Centre (UK). Disappointingly it doesn’t work. Attempting the alternative suggestion – a full factory reset, prompted immediate interest in apps backup software. This opens up a new quagmire. Continue reading

Exclusive X Factor app is still missing from Ovi

Rating: We actually bothered to check

A very modest announcement on Nokia’s Facebook page confirms that it has indeed secured an exclusive app for the X Factor 2010 TV show. This app will only be available from the Ovi store, so that means no Android or iPhone version which is something of a coup. Attempts to discover exactly what Nokia handsets can run it failed because it isn’t there yet despite a promised release date of today. Continue reading

But large numbers of videos, creatives and games still simply won’t run on Apple’s mobile devices. But developer Skyfire has submitted version 2.0 of its mobile browser to the iTunes Store – and it claims it will be able to play any Flash formats. Continue reading

Mobile gaming goes fully cross platform with Aurora Feint

This evening’s launch of Apple’s Game Center has really lit a fire under the mobile gaming industry. In particular, social gaming company Aurora Feint seems to have gone into overdrive. Today, it has announced the launch of a new SDK called PlayTime, which will allow any games developer to make their game a true cross-platform app – allowing gamers on Android and iPhone to play with (or against) one another. And on top of that, the system will integrate fully with Game Center. Continue reading

Daily Mail’s Teletext Mobile launches apps into the Android Market

Teletext Mobile is a company that I find fascinating. It’s the mobile content branch of A&N Media – and A&N is the company that houses the powerful media assets of the Daily Mail Group & Trust. The remit of Teletext Mobile is to explore the potential and possibilities offered by mobile technology, so when it announces that it is launching its first series of Android applications, it’s worth taking a look.
